A Day in My Shoes

Here is the run down on a {typical} day in my 3rd grade classroom. Brace yourself.

7:40 Pick up the kids from the gym

7:40--7:50 Unpack & turn in guided reading homework/put reading log on desk (Also during this time my student of the day goes around and highlights each child's reading log. If they didn't read their name goes on the board for study hall during recess)

7:50-8:20 Morning Edge - this is a time that my highs leave the room for enrichment, my lows are at my teacher table doing interventions, whether it be guided reading, first steps (have you heard of it??) or math small group. My on level students are doing either group or independent work around the room, whether it be tubs, nonfiction reading, technology, etc...

8:20-8:30 Problem of the Day- kids solve it independently and then we go over it has a class. Students bring their notebooks to the doc cam to show different strategies

8:30-8:35 Math Facts - students participate in times multiplication tests. It is very self paced and I do not make a big deal on what number they are on, nor do I display it around the room.

8:35-8:50 Math Mini Lesson

8:50-9:45 Math Workstations begin - Students have 4 rotations 1. Teacher Table 2. Tub Work 3. STAAR Wars 4. Evalutation {I meet with three math groups, instead of my high kids going to teacher table they go to the computers and ipads} P.S.S - my math groups change weekly based on my Friday Quick Check

9:50 C.A.M.P {Computers, Art, Music, PE}

10:40 Snack/Read Aloud

10:50-11:40 Writer's Workshop - I do a 10 to 15 minute mini lesson and the remainder of the time is independent writing *my fav time of the day* I conference with students during this time and we have 4 author's that share at the end

11:40-11:55 Word Work/Handwriting {cursive}

12:00-1:00 Lunch/Recess

1:00-1:45 Science *yippee*

1:45-2:40 Reader's Workshop - this consists of a mini lesson and then SSR {sustained silent reading} During this time I am pulling guided reading groups. There is a 10 minute journaling time at the end of reader's workshop for the kids to connect the mini lesson to what they read {if they weren't doing it while reading}

2:40 Pack & Stack

Whew, I'm tired just typing it out. Good thing we have Monday off!

Join in on the fun!!!
